Treatment of Mining and Thermoelectric Waste Through the Geopolymerization Process

Currently, energy and extraction activities generate large amounts of highly polluting waste, so there is a need for sustainable environmentally friendly technologies. The aim the study to treat mining tailings fly ash through process geopolymerization. samples studied were obtained from Toquepala mine, Tacna ENGIE-Moquegua hydroelectric plant (Peru). methodology was based on two stages, first characterization Fly Ash (FA) mine (MT) by EDX chemical characterization, SEM morphology, second prepared mixtures MT FA in 10 M alkaline solution, cured 35 days at room temperature geopolymer organoleptic analysis, TCLP. stage shows high aluminosilicate content 20.44% Al2O3 53.39 % SiO2 (MT); 22.11% 51.76% (FA), presents metal pyrite content. In stage, show health environmental harmlessness, with formation tetragonal structures typical geopolymer, significant reduction Sr, Ca, Fe, Pb, Ba, Be, Cu, demonstrating effectiveness treatment means geopolymerization opening new field passive treatment.
